Instagram has been consistently working on eliminating bullying and harassment from its platform.
It is for this reason, it rolled out features like ‘Restrict’, ‘Auto-Hide Comments’, ‘Report’ etc., to facilitate and ease the bullying situations that users once faced regularly.
While Restrict feature stopped people from commenting on a person’s post and messaging them, the strict ‘Report’ policies banned a user’s account only after a few reports within a window of time.
That said…
Instagram now took it to another level rolling out new features to help users manage unwanted interactions and tackle bullying on the platform.
Now users on Instagram would be able to delete the comments in bulk as well as block or restrict multiple accounts in just a few taps.
Testing this feature for some time now, the company stated that it has received some positive responses from global users, especially those with a larger following.
As a result, it has finally decided to roll it out globally which would help users maintain a positive environment on the platform.
In order to block or restrict accounts on Android, press and hold on a comment, and then tap the dotted icon. Later, users may accordingly select to either Block or Restrict the accounts they want.
On the flip side if you are an iOS user, tap on the comment and then the dotted icon in the top right corner of your screen. Select ‘Manage Comments’ and choose up to 25 comments to delete at once. Tap More Options to block or restrict accounts in bulk.
Instagram not only made it easier to remove negative comments but also is testing a feature ‘Pinned Comments’ to amplify and encourage positive interactions.
Pinned comments are much like what you see on YouTube.
The YouTuber pins your comment on top if he likes and all users would see it highlighted on top when they go through the comment section.
Likewise…
When an Instagrammer would pin a comment, it would be highlighted on top of all other comments.
The ‘Pin Comment’ feature would give users a way to set the tone for their accounts and engage with their community by pinning a select number of comments to the top of their comments thread.
From the past scenarios, it has been noticed that bullies often resort mentioning or tagging someone in a mean post to degrade who they want to bully.
It is for this reason, the company rolled out additional controls to check the users who can mention or tag you in a post.
Post-release users would be able to choose whether they want ‘Everyone’, ‘Only People they Follow’, or ‘No one’ to be able to tag or mention them in a comment, caption, or a story.
For doing so, go to your Settings > Privacy > Tags/Mentions, and select the option you want.
The latest features would stop harassment and bullying to a great extent as well as shape the platform to radiate more of a positive environment.
