“A celebration of shopping on Instagram. Discover your new favorite brands- and tap to shop every post!”- That is how the Instagram’s official page ‘Shop‘ describes itself on the platform.

Launched in March 2019, which is just a year ago, Instagram created a page named ‘igfashionshopping’ to promote shopping on the platform.

The username though soon changed to “Shop“, the page became a hub for users on the platform to find new products from different brands, and shop as well.

With a user base of 240K as of today, “Shop” on Instagram has been a doggedly persisting to scale up small businesses to flourish and grow and get more exposure by promoting them on the official page.

However…

Instagram is thinking of taking a slight shift now which I assume could bring a majority of Instagrammers to join the bandwagon of 240K other users.

As spotted by Jane Manchung Wong (a reverse engineer from Hong-Kong, who finds unreleased features and security vulnerabilities in popular apps), Instagram is testing to add ‘Shop from Facebook’ that users would find under the name “View Shop” beside the ‘Follow’ and ‘Message’ option.

What would this option do though?

Here is what Instagram mentions while a user clicks on the option for the first time-

“See curated collections and new releases from brands you love. We personalize what you see in Shops and other Facebook Products. This means we will connect your activity, including from Shops, across our Products to make recommendations and suggest ads and other sponsored content.”

As it’s clear from the company’s statement, ‘View Shop’ would present users with a collection of products, ads, and sponsored content based on the interests and activity on the platform.

So basically if you are a guy who follows influencers like Jose Zuniga, Mariano Di Vaio, and so on, you would see stuff related to guy’s grooming and products rather than beauty soaps that you would never buy.

Likewise, if you are a girl, Instagram would cater collection in your ‘View Shop’ based on your activity and interests.
